I got an opportunity to work with a client who had an existing website, but needed to step things up a bit. He needed a way to post classes online and have customers register and pay for them. I started with a basic CSS template, modified it to suit his needs and color scheme, and integrated a shopping cart linked to a Paypal account for accepting onlne payments. I also set up client-side form validation.

I was asked to take a Photoshop comp and quickly convert it to XHTML and CSS for the client to integrate a Content Management Cystem (CMS). The client wanted an accordian-style menu to showcase their guest speakers and also needed backward compatibility due to the corporate environment. I was given two days to turn this around and got it back to the client ahead of schedule.

This site was handed off to me in an early design phase and I had to take the ball and run with it. I worked closely with the client to get the look, feel, and functionaltiy out of the site that he desired, taking into consideration his target audience. I also had to make sure that it was backward compatible and displayed properly in IE6.

This is a corporate retail site at it's finest. This was all about functionality and targeting the audience. It is a full table-less layout with CSS. I built out a "details" page using a image-swapping element for the product color choices and a zoom window to see the product close-up.

This is a site that I designed from scratch for a rental property in the Adirondack Mountains in upstate NY. The client wanted to have the site feel warm and inviting and showcase the home and surrounding area. I chose a three-column layout for some of the pages, and was able to create continuous column backbrounds without the use of a faux column background image. I also incorporated a JQuery lightbox to view larger images in their portfolio.

Video

I produced this video for Michael Kinsey, who is a professional drummer currently playing for the band Third Sun. He wanted a portfolio piece that showcased his ability, showmanship and style. He chose the song "Natural Science" by Rush to play due to it's energy and complexity. I produced this on Mac OSX Final Cut Pro with the opening sequence in After Effects.

I produced this video at the request of George Wislar, President and CEO of Wislar Wealth Management. Mr. Wislar wanted to find a way to connect to his clients through detailing in his own words what services his company offer and his approach to investments.Mr Wislar was looking to grow his business and felt that the addition of video on his website would provide a valuable affect for potential clients.

This is a production and editing project given to me as an assignment. The scope of the project was to create a production involving the creation of a script, direction of actors, filming, and editing. This demonstrates my ability to utilize Mac OSX Final Cut Pro and gives an example of my 'Ron Howard' type talent.

Flash

I have produced a few pieces of Flash content that show my range of abilites. These were achieved in Actionscript 3.0.

Some things about me...short and sweet.

Chris SchondelMy name is Chris Schondel and thank you for taking the time to view my digital porfolio. I reside in Ewing, NJ (outside of Trenton and Princeton) and am currently pursuing a web design certification from Mercer County Community College (two classes to go!). I am available on a freelance basis for agency work, small business web design, graphic design and web consulting.

I am a big advocate of web standards, and I push all of my designs to have valid code. I keep up with the latest trends and focus heavily on user experience. What's the point of having a "designed" website if it doesn't work for the user?

My areas of expertise:

  • Photoshop to valid XHTML and CSS
  • User interface design
  • Graphic Design
  • SEO consulting
  • Flash animation and development
  • Digital imaging
  • Branding, logos & corporate identity
